Course Overview

The Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Principles of Community First Response (RQF) is an introduction to the role and responsibilities of the Community First Responder (CFR). This is a qualification for those (aged 18 years or above) who have an interest in community support and working as a team alongside the Emergency Services.

The qualification Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Principles of Community First Response (RQF) is intended for people who are performing or aspiring to perform as a Community First Responder who are often based in rural or semi-rural locations which are far from ambulance stations.

During this 2 day course, Learners will gain the necessary skills associated with the assessment, treatment and stabilisation of patients with life threatening medical conditions.

What’s Covered?

The role and responsibilities of a community first responder
Assessing a scene at an emergency incident

Assessing a patient, including:

  • Primary survey
  • Secondary survey
  • Patient handover

Assessing and managing a patient’s airway
Managing an unresponsive patient who is not breathing normally
How to use an Automated External Defibrillator during a cardiopulmonary resuscitation attempt
Administration of emergency oxygen
Community first response equipment
Managing patients:

  • With shock
  • With breathing difficulties
  • With anaphylaxis
  • With a suspected major illness

Conducting and recording base line observations

Entry requirements
Learners must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the training.

To generate evidence of community first response to complete this qualification, Learners must have access
to a minimum of 12 hours mentored practice.

There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a
minimum of Level 1 in literacy or equivalent.
